new boy with questions

hi, im nev, just bought my other half for xmas a 52 plate 3 dr silver 1.8T GTi,

just bought some avo springs ready to fit and going to see mike at vw speed this week for a filter.  ill get some pics up soon.

the golf has full history and has only done 40k, but when i start it the starter sounds like a diesel, is that normal,

also when warm and at a stand still there is a ticking coming from the bit near the washer bottle, again is it normal,

Tickings normal think its just the charcoal canister, my starter makes a weird screech when it cuts in for the first time every day but it works so im not going to replace it.
