1993 mk3 1.8 issues

hi all ive got a 1993 Mk3 1.8 (aam engine) golf
first question what should she idle at when warm????
and when i change gears from 4th to 5th it doesn't happen just seems to goto 3rd(3rd and 5th are together gear stick moves between both with now stop in between)

The abs 1.8 engine's idle's at 850-900 rpm when warm and if your's won't then you need to replace the temp sensor!!! and regarding your box it sound's like it need's the alignment resetting for the linkage's (and maybe a few of the plastic bit's that wear) use the search function as their is a good detailed post on here somewhere (and mk2's are similar)
