Fuel feed and return pipe help
« on: 29 December 2006, 20:11 »
I am converting my mk2 diver to 2ltr 8v  are the fuel pipes the same spec? ie will they handle the pump pressure,  the part numbers are very similar and they look and feel the same? Cheers Si

I didn't think a carbed car would have a return feed?

I took a quick glance on Etka, and it really depends by the looks of things, does your driver actually have an advance fuel pump (or just a lift pump), because all the pressure fittings will be different and they can't be bodged!

What year was your driver and what year engine are you fitting and I can check the part numbers and bits against each other if you like.

Was a 92 1600cc did not have a lift pump just a edp,  it had a return and feed line one black one blue, engine that is going in is a 94 seat motor code 2E  using a a mk3 fuel tank and intank pump.
 Cheers Si

Yes a carb engine should have a fuel return, but many have since webbers bodged on at some point and had the return plugged up.

You'll need to remove both fuel lines and replace with mk2 gti lines, and fit the main pump & lift pump from one while you're there.

I'd recommend you fit a complete MK2 gti digifant system, and put a MK2 pb head on the 2e block, it flows better and you'll can just get a digi loom & plug it straight in :)

Edit: thinking about it, if you're using the MK3 pump you may be fine with what you've got!  I think the only difference between mk2 carb & digi lines is the length & shape.  Looking at ETKA, both digi & carb use the same flexi fuel hose :)
