Car not starting......

Hi,

Have a problem just now with my 92 Mk2 Golf GTI 8v not starting. Normally it starts on the button first time but about a week ago it started to take 3 attempts before it would start. It is now in the position where it will not start at all. The battery is recent and the car will attempt to start up but never quite make it (have had it so that it is chugging (literally) but then just dies).

I have checked the leads, plugs, distributor cap are all full connected but still doesn't seem to make a difference. Unfortunately I am no mecanic so just wondered if anyone had any more ideas before I have to call one out (had thought itmight be to do with the damp/cold)?

Get a blue temp sensor from vw, about £13.  Parts guy might try to tell u its only for CAT equipped cars, but ignore him and buy it anyway.

When was it last serviced, replace the air filter, the dizzy cap & rotor arm, and I'd throw new plugs in as well.  Best place I've found for service bits is http://www.vwspares.co.uk
