Water Leak
« on: 15 December 2006, 14:40 »
Hi people, I have a problem with water in the back of my Mk4 GTi. Since that really heavy rain we had a couple of weeks ago the carpet in the back behind the passenger seat issoaking wet. I have dried it out a couple of times but it just seems to come back. It's only the carpet that is on the floor, i.e not where it goes up at the sides and where the rear cup holders are.
Has anyone got any ideas of where it could be coming from, as I am hopefully going to try and look into it at the weekend. I am desperate to get it sorted cause the car smells damp every time I get in and it's not nice.

Thanks people.

hey my mate has a very similar problem at the moment, is the front carpet wet at all..i just helped him locate where it is coming from and we traced it to trickling down behind the dash...but cant actually see exactly where because it is such a tight space and dark, i think it maybe coming in where a aftermarket alarm was fitted and not sealed correctly so if uve had an alarm fitted maybe its worth lookng into that, also if anyone knows of any common leaking points behind the dash please could you let me know , cheers

Say bye bye

MIGHT BE blockage or something around the pollen filter.. sometimes causes water leak on the front passenger footwell... this is located on the passenger side just under the wind screen in the engine bay...do a search on here ive read other threads with similar problems...

Sorry cliff not sure what could make it leak in the back?  :undecided:

Yeah I have just had the pollen filter out, as I ran my power cable through there for the amp, doesn't seem wet a all to be honest and I've put some blue roll up behind the dash to see if there is any moisture there, and nothing seemed wet.
I ran my power cable along the plastic by the door, had to take the seals off, I'm wondering if it's to do with that somehow. It only seems that the back carpt is wet not the front.
Thanks
