mk2 16v problem with over fuelling?

aye sounds like the timings out to me by quite a few notchs. hence the flaming as the combustion is escaping out the exhaust. unless you have a very leary cam like i did on my ol 205 which caused flames when i backed off the throttle after planting it (the twin webers always over fueled too!)
