Soundpack info??
« on: 05 December 2006, 20:20 »
Hi all,

Am looking at getting my 1st GTI in UK and am currently looking at optional extras.... going for the Leather, 18" alloys, DSG and then can't decide on the SAT NAV with ipod prep or getting the RCD500 and soundpck for £675 and ipod prep.

Anyone have any info on what spec the sound system the SAT NAV comes with in UK as the dealer knows less than I do also the RCD500 details are vague I know it comes with 10 speakers and a soundpack, but what is the spec of the soundpack ie whats included and what does it improve on the standard kit I can't find any info anywhere on the net .... any advise would be greatly appreciated....

Matt

A bit like you, I could find little concrete info when I ordered my Edition 30 last month - I was swithering over the Soundpack and RCD500...I've come to like the BOSE in my current TT and was looking at all the factory options for audio

My salesman admitted he knew very little about the soundpack...a bit of internet trawling confirmed that very few dealers knew much about it. I really don't think it will retain any value whatsoever come trade in time, unlike Audi, where BOSE does seem to be a definite plus for trade ins.

As far as I can tell, it consists of slightly upgraded speakers, and a separate amplifier to drive them. From internet posts, sound quality is not that much improved from the standard fit and not really worth the £400 extra compared to the RCD500 standalone option

I've just gone for the ipod interface and RCD300 with 8 speakers, and will probably spend a few hundred changing the speakers to better ones if I get annoyed with the standard fit ones

Doc, in terms of performance, whats the DVD sat-nav like compared to an aftermarket unit like TomTom?  I have ordered it for my Edition 30 but only because it looks pretty otherwise I would have done without it as I have heard thats its crap.

It's a little bit poo! Poor postcode searches but actually works fine - it makes the dash look so much better!

My advice - fit your own one!
