« on: 03 November 2006, 13:57 »
How Much is it worth, probably a lot more personally than in monetary terms:
VW Golf gti t 2002
Black  5 door
86000
Full VW SH
4 new tyres
Excellent condition much loved car built in Germany (not South Africa) so build quality first rate.
Need to buy a smaller diesel car
Wife wants an A2
Bought for £10000 just under 2 years ago
Need £6500 at least or not worth selling.
Will really miss this car so will my son

If your selling it privately, then the autotrader will set the price!  (The Glass's guide is for the trade, so that is what you should expect if you were part exchaging).  There's hope yet!

Does anyone know how to get some small scratches out bloody metallic black shows all the scratches doesn't it.

Hmmmnnnn - Well black permanent marker pens - the sort for writing on a CD or on plastic work for about 4 weeks, less in the frost.  You put coats over the fine scratches and then rub off  at the edges - test to find the technique. They cover the light primer under the base.......................

Hmmnnn - but If I come along......I will look more carefully and see. I only buy a car in strong lighting conditions.

Thinking of getting it properly polished and valeted out not to cover anything up just to get he most I can for it, trust me this car is fantastic and I would keep it forever but I just cannot afford to keep it

I don't mean to hurt you.  Look, don't waste money on professional polishing and all that bollocks - It is total bollocks anyway. You can't polish out scratches on metalic black   - it is glaze over base - Anyone who says you can is talking utter bollocks.

Polishing out solid cellulose colours came to an end in 1995 for flat paint, metallics, about 1989 or so. IT'S ALL TWO PACK PAINT NOW.

If you cut the glaze down to the depth of the scratch, you've removed a load of clear glaze laquer and some paint colour as well - who does that help ?

Give the car a good clean inside and out, then wax it yourself. Then test the market. If you need the money before Christmas - time is of the essence

I'm really sorry you have to say goodbye to a geat car.  Used car Buyers prefer an honest deal, you can tell those "scratch away" rubbish repairs - a mile away .   Don't freak, just sell as a proper private owner.
