Hello,

The heater / ventilation controls in centre console do not illuminate (lights not working) when the lights are switched on.

How do you remove the centre console to replace the bulb(s)?

Also, the light swith (and the bit to the left which tells you what lights are on) does not illuminate either, how do you remove the switch, etc to replace the bulb(s). Is this why the buzzer has stopped working when you leave your lights on, take the key out of the ignition and get out the car?

Thanks

I've got the same problem as you with the illumination of the heater controls - gets a bit tricky adjusting them at night! I'm going to have a look today so I'll let you know how I get on.

As for the switch, the bulbs are built in - it can be taken off and taken apart but its a bit fiddly. If your cars not a GTI/VR6 (i.e. has only rear fogs) I have a spare switch you can have if you want it? let me know.

its a bit of a fiddly job but you need to prise off the heater surround with a screw driver and take out the ashtray, as well as pull the knobs off. You should then see about 6 screws (I think from memory). Undo these and the heater controls should be able to be pulled forward slightly (but dont force as they are connected at the rear. At the centre of these controls on the top there will be a plastic shroud with a bulb underneath (basically one bulb illuminates all three controls, like on scalextric cars...or used to be). Carefully remove the plastic and you should be able to pull the bulb out.

Its a bit vague sorry but just doing it from memory so may have forgotten some stuff.

Thanks for the advice. had a look at the centre console. The switches came away relativley easily, took out the ashtray and removed the two screws behind that, but could not see anymore screws / fixings, I'll try again this weekend.

My car is a GTi, but the problem is not with the switch - I didn't make it clear. The switch lights up, but the panel around the switch does not light up.

How dow you remove the switch / panel to get at the bulb? Is this why the buzer has stopped working as well?

Thanks
