engine turning over
« on: 30 October 2006, 10:11 »
okay , well i bought a H reg MK2 1.6 driver last night , near mint condition. drove home (2 hours) fine , started first time later that night , had no problems whatsoever.  got up this morning to move it out of the drive and basically turned the key and it just keeps turning over. also no way to rev the accelerator as there is just no power. i was thinking a flat battery or perhaps the carb? does anyone have any ideas , as you can imagine i'm a bit pissed off

cheers in advance.

p.s - here's a picture of her

Both of the things that you mentioned, either a bad battery or its flat due to a dodgy alternator, carb issues or maybe its just not sparking for some reason - plugs, ht leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, coil.

I would start by trying to jump start it, then check spark at the plugs, then if you still havn't sorted it move onto air filter and carb. There is a good post on setting up Pierburg carbs in the 'Maintenance and Info' child board on this part of the forum.

take the dizzy cap off and check for condensation.  If I were you I'd just give it a good service with proper OEM quality bits:

Then let us know how you get on ;)
