Newbie needs advice
« on: 11 October 2006, 21:47 »
Hi all. I have just purchased a 1997 Mk3 Golf cabriolet 1.8i 8v. Having come from a scooby turbo to this car (power wise) is a bit of a kick in the nuts so i was just wondering if there was any power enhancing mods which are worth doing to make it a bit pokier. Also its sittting on a set of 17's without any suspension mods, what lowering springs would you guys recommend? Cheers Mike (If you are wondering why i have changed car i needed something a bit smaller for the mrs and liked the look of these.)

how do bud,i had an impreza turbo before my gti an vr6,once they are lowered i found my gti to be more fun than the scoob  as for power mods,im not sure how far u can go with them to be honest, money no object, get a vr lump or 1.8t transplant.ive got the de-cat and stainless exhaust, superchip and air filter etc etc and thats only just pushed my vr6 upto 200bhp. i know that my scoob went mad after i de-catted it and got all the hks goodies in there, but i fell for the roar of the vr! doesnt matter how many horses you got,its how low you can go!!  get some coilovers for sure,i'll let someone else tell you which ones are best as ive yet to get some, but mine is lowered about 60mm,which to me is fine on 17s. now ive finished rambling, welcome to the forum!
