for f***'s sake...
« on: 01 October 2006, 21:19 »
Picked my poor car up from the garage yesterday, (still with no speedo) and on the way home I noticed my handbrake light was on constantly (whilst on the motorway!) and no - I wasn't driving with it on!  Then when I got to a junction I put handbrake on and the light went off! Its all f*cking back to front! What is is with my car? Everytime it goes into a garage it comes out with yet a new electrical problem. Any ideas anyone? (I know this is the least of my worries but I thought I may as well ask!)

Brake Fluid
brake switch in dash
Make sure no cables are going across the top of the brake servo bottle - as there is a little lifter on the top that if anything pushes that down it will show the brake light on.

Gem you weren't liying about problems?
In my opinion you got a couple of options.

You might need to gut out the wire looms and up date sounds like a load problem causing all these problems can't tell unless I got a volt meter on the system.
Thats not cheap unless people here can donate or supply uprated looms.
The problem with the MK1 wires are that there are rated certain Amp's. Todays high powered bulbs and stereo can cause overloads on the electrics causing volt spikes on the other parts. Plus after awhile the loom's plastic just degrades from wear causing shorts and drain on the alternators.

You need to trace any sensors on the car as stated lifters can cause this to happen.
Find a decent electrics guy.
