SPAX springs
« on: 03 October 2006, 15:52 »
I've just bought some SPAX springs from ebay. A guy on another forum mentioned that they were rubbish and Ishould sell them and save up for better ones. Is this good advice. I just want to improve looks and handling for minimal costs, so thought they would be good. I'm keeping original shocks for now due to cost. Any advice on how good SPAX are? Has anyone got them fitted? Cheers

I have a SPAX kit fitted to my 16v which is lowered by 35mm. The handling is fantastic but its too hard for my liking.

yup, i have fitted SPAX to a few cars, they always seemed to be on the hard side. but with suspension you need to weigh up several things, how far/long do you travel in it, what is your driving style, what are your roads like etc etc...
i have G-Max springs, that came with the car - they are equally as hard, in fact running with bilstein sport shocks a bit too bouncy.
i believe Weitec are the springs to go for if you could pick anything.
hope that is of some help.

two windscreen wipers, one exhaust... surely thats the wrong way round.....

Eibach are the springs to go for if you can afford them. They design their lowering springs to match the characteristics of standard vw shocks.

Another thing to consider when fitting new shorter springs to std old shocks is that the shocks will have to work harder and in my experience won't last very long before they give up.

Have used SPAX on several cars and found them fine. But I have always used the springs with adjustable shocks.
