Another MPG Thread
« on: 11 April 2007, 10:02 »
I've read all the threads about the mpg you get from the tdi's but still not convinced that i'm getting what i should. i got a 2003 GTTDI 130 thats only done 31,000 miles. when i'm driving around town i get about 37mpg and when i take it on the motorway for a run i normally get about 46-50 mpg. theres also a motorway straight where i stay and when its empty (at three in the morning!) i'll put the footdown to see what top end i get but its not got past 120 (i've got 18's on the car though so don't know if that makes a difference!). i've not got a VAGCOM but from what i've been reading, could it be the maf and if so, why has that packed in when its only done low millage? i bought the car last march at 17,000 miles and it was apparently sitting in the showroom car park for six months prior. could that be factor?

that all sounds about right, depending on how fast you drive though.

my run to work is just under 35 miles, with about 4 miles being 'urban' and the rest motorway / a road if i drive around 70 i'll get about 52mpg average, going home i'll get about 48 as its busy getting out of town where i work.

if i do the same journey at say 80+ then i'll get about 45-48

it depends on how fast you drive, also thought 18's are going to cut a few off too

I do tend to have a heavy foot! i'll try and keep it sensible and see if i'm getting better mpg. most of my driving is urban anyway so that kills the mpg. i'll give it a week and post what i get.

if you got a heavy right foot then your MPG is excellent!

on a run I'll get between 50-55mpg; have seen it as high as 63 and that was at motorway speeds!

around town its anywhere between 35-45mpg depending on traffic
