SWG Motorsport rear spoiler connections
« on: 23 September 2006, 09:09 »
I am looking at installing a high-level third brake light on the back of my otherwise (externally) standard Mk2 GTI. I do not want some dope tail-ending me after I have restored my motor.

I am considering the SWG Motorsport spoiler with integral Red LED (to go with the Mars Red paintwork) as in the link below:

http://www.swgmotorsport.com/asps/Sh...ils.asp?id=124

The blurb says:

"This is an easy fit item and uses the existing holes in the rear glass (GTi model)"

If anyone has experience of these LED spoilers, is one of the 4 holes in the rear glass sacrified in order to route through the electrical wires supplying the LED lights ?

Had a look today and the rear spoiler is held on by 3 holes through the rear windscreen not 4.

However the query still remains. Are the wires to the LED run through one of these windscreen holes ?

Cheers

What about one like mine.

Got it from a company called 'Badge it illuminations' who were based in the London area.Sent them the spoiler and they fitted the brake light for £49. Have'nt seen them advertise for a few years now.I don't know if they are still on the go,maybe someone else would know.Only other option is the states for the genuine American spec item.
The wires for mine run through the spoiler holes in the rear window.

I have to say that if I was going down that route, I would get one of the lights that attaches itself to the inside of the window by double sided tape.. much more discreet
Just my opinion...
