Just bought a R reg Golf GTi 2.0 16v....

Afternoon all,

Have finally got myself a GTi 

And am going through the checks.

The first thing I have noticed is that she is going guzzly on the fuel 

She is running well and is giving me crackin performance and is completely standard.

Could this just be down to dirty injectors and need for a new air and fuel filters.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Have read through other links and couldn't find anything that would directly relate.

...tends to go hand in hand with increased fuel bills.  What MPG you getting?

Well,

The computer is Stating around 28.7, but i've been watching the fuel gauge drop rapidly.

This leads me to another question, how does the MPG computer calc, is it using the rev counter and the speedometer OR is it actually measuring fuel flow?

I hope it's the latter.

Well my old mk3 8v GTi had an average of 31mpg so it doesn't sound too bad.

OK, I'll keep an eye on it, does anyone know how the MPG computer measures it's reading?  is it linked to the actual fuel flow?

i know its slightly different but my mate gets on AVERAGE 18mpg from his mk2!!!!
