rear brake pipe leaking

Anyone had any problems with this?? brake fluid was low so was checking the pads, noticed fluid leaking from the pipe  ..
I can see where the leak is, what i wanted to know was if i take the pipe of the caliper, how far back does it go where i can disconnect it to put a new one on???

oh yeh and if anyone can give me step by step instructions on bleeding, would be much appreciated!

I can't help you with the pipe location itself but for bleeding, I use a Gunson pressure bleeder, it connects to the spare tyre which pressurizes a container filled with brake fluid, this in turn screws onto the fluid reservoir and pumps the fluid through the system, all you do is open the bleed nipple at the caliper, with a piece of clear plastic hose attached. The hose drains into a jar, just view the fluid passing through the hose and close the nipple when the bubbles stop.

Naa, it is the actual pipe thats damaged not the pipe connections... ive bought a new one from the stealers just need to ift it and bleed it

the rear flexi pipe dosnt go back that far just follow it from the caliper with the rear wheel off and its easy enough... common prob on mk4's is the alloy washers either side of the banjo fitment (the bolt that bolts pipe onto caliper) corroade over time and can split, causing loss of fluid, this happend on my mk4 on the way to work last year... not good.. brakes were there then not there.. think the washers are 25p each from dealers thery keep them in stock as its very common.. fit the new pipe to the brake line but not the caliper, get some one to press the pedal gently till fluid seeps out, then fit to the caliper, then you need to bleed it... there is many ways to bleed brakes, but 1st of all before you start on the mk4 you need to bleed the master cylinder which has 2 bleed nipples, as if your fluid has gone really low chances are youve got air in there too, i had on mine!! so start there, then progress doing the furthest piston away 1st system... either use a power bleed kit or have some one with a decent leg who understands what your doing to help.

(i only found out about the mk4 master cylinder bleeding because i just couldnt get mine right as the level went that low when the washer split, i did the ususal way of doing it and no matter how many times it was still spongey.. the lads a louth vw gave me a pointer to this i did it and all was good)

Sounds straight forward, gonna give it a go now... brake fluid didnt go down much, i kept an eye on it and kept topping up..
