I may be preaching to the converted here but I thought I'd pass on my little hiccup . Checked vehicle Service Record......no change of Brake fluid recorded . Contacted previous owner , confirmed she hadn't done it . (Vehicle :VW golf Mkiv 2L GTi on a Y plate ..77000 on the clock .) Duly purchased 1 Litre of Lockheed fluid , roped in my mate ( and his ramp )and set to . All nipples eased off surprisingly easily ,and we set to . All but one nipple gave a good squirt of fluid and eventually the last appeared to clear satisfactorily . Fluid changed.....let's get the pedal up . An hour and a half later , brakes lousy , almost travelling to the floor ! One last try ( pub had been open for half an hour ) Further reference to the " Bible " ( Haynes ) Noticed it talked of a bleed nipple on the Brake Fluid master cylinder itself ....true , but , there are actually 2 ! Almost as soon as we "bled " them pedal firm and rising....good response . Brakes now excellent . So guys if you c'ant get it to be firm !! check your Master Cylinder . I understand this mod . is prevalent on the MKiv but I believe not so on the MKV. Sorry for being so long-windwd about this but I hope it helps some other "New to VW MKiv s" bod .
