Golf VR6 cutting out and bad running
« on: 04 August 2006, 15:21 »
Hello all
My 1992 Golf VR6 has had a bad time
Running fine then coughing and spluttering then jumping back into action.
I hear this is a common fault on 8valve gti's
After reading several messages left on this site and £350 later spent at my local VAG service dept, i then tried the dreaded ECU relay after reading reports that it has cured peoples golfs.
I fitted one today and so far it has worked. Ive done about 100 miles and all ok, where as before it would have coughed 3 or 4 times.
I have also had new Lamba, Crank sender, fuel pump relay but none of these worked,i also cleaned throttle body .
But the new ECU relay seems to have done the job

Part No  v23134-b63-x396
              1J 906 381A
              PA66-GF25
It has a big 109 on the top

so all is good apart from passanger window only comes down about an inch :undecided:

Well hopefully the relay has done the trick. Glad you got it sorted in the end.

I just dont believe it.....
After replacing the ECU relay it drove like a new car all yesterday.
Went down to the shop this morning and i think the  pixies have replaced my 6 pot with a tractor engine, its worse than ever
Looks like a day of back ache and head scratching
The joys of Golfs
I am a big MK1 fan and have 3 as well as my MK3 VR6.
im thinking of an engine swap,  No not Vr6 into mk1 , but 1.8gti into my MK3 Vr6

I will let you all know my findings

Thanks
Mark

Hello all
I have been reading all the messages left on an earlier post regarding 8 valve gtis with the same problem.

As i said ive changed most things, Lamba, Crank sensor, Fuel pump relay, Cleaned TB, ECU relay etc etc etc.....

All worked for a couple of days then back to the coughing and spluttering as before..

This weekend i cleaned all the pipes that go to the TB as there was a bit of crap in them, put it back no change..  Then stripped it again an cleaned the plastic connecter that has an electrical plug on it (SENSOR??) that fits into the large pipe from air mass to TB.(has two arrows, 1 on the large pipe ,1 on the smaller pipe.

The amount of rubbish that came out of that small piece of plastic was amazing..

Put it back again then fired aload of carb cleaner up air intake when it was running, and had a full day of driving (132miles) with no problems at all

But ive been here before so i will keep in touch

Mark

Do you mean the air mass meter sensor? Yeah that would cause poor running. If that doesent work then clean up all earths.
