Good plan. Just dont get suckered into the boy racer option and go for the largest possible bore. Its the size it is on an 8v gti for a reason.

whats the size on the v8 then whats the bore im kinda new to cars is it the i got a dtm oval back box i  wanna get the midpipe and manafold done in a thicker pipe to let the air slow better.

If you go any bigger than the standard 8v size then you will end up loosing power rather than gaining it. Its only forced induction engines that benefit from a hooooge exhaust. NA engines rely on the exhaust to pull the gases out and if you go too big this does not happen anymore.

Can anyone say for sure the diameter of an 8v gti exhaust?
