BMW for VW??
« on: 23 December 2003, 13:52 »
I've just got hold of some 14" bbs alloys for ?40 with ok tyres!
BUT they were from a 1990 BMW 3 series. They fit, and they look ok, but could someone tell me if they were just fitted to BMWs or were they just a BBS model that BMW decided to use. I know this is probably a question for a BMW forum but I'm curious to know if anyone else has used these wheels on a golf.
  :-\
Cheers
   Dave

i have the same query, BMW BBS wheels on a golf?

Many older E30 BMW BBS wheels look the same as many VW BBS wheels. You could just change the bmw centre caps.

What do you reckon?

2006 Golf GTI Mk5, 1997 Golf GTI Mk3 Anniversary - Both gone, but not forgotten...Just arrived Golf GTI 16v Mk3!!!!!

Just be very careful because even if the offsets are right, many 80's and even 90's BMWs had metric sized wheels that the owners are desperate to get rid of because of the impossible to buy metric tyres. If the tryres are Michelin TRX or have a three digit last number (i.e 345 where you would expect 14 or 15) revering to the size in inches then walk away.

I've tried one on the front which is where the offset problem could occur and its all good.
The centre caps are a bit of an arse though >:(
I want to get the BBS logo ones but people keep telling me they are gonna have to come from germany!!
I know its christmas but even so, the people at unicar said they could take ages to come. if anyone knows of a cheaper alternative plese let me know.

only thing i would think about is if the pcd (i think) is right. this is how the bolt holes line up and if they arent spot on then can cause cracked wheels. i think bmw are smaller than vw . dont know for certain tho. anyone else?
