engine management light
« on: 31 July 2006, 15:24 »
my engine managment light is coming off and on every few days, ive heard that on mk4s this light comes on for virtually anything. ive obviously been using my air con, and it would seem like when i stop the engine leaving the air con on, the engine managment light comes on for a few days until i start switching the air con off and on when re starting the engine.

has anyone else had this problem, i know it would be easier to visit a garage, but if most suspect the air con, then ill get it sorted.

Me speaking I'd take it in for a diagnostic code reading. Take it to a good garage, word of warning thou VW will charge you the earth to plug a code reader your ECU.

Your right about the engine light lighting up for the just about everthing, your don't control the car the ECU does.

I had the engine light glow once and I took it in and it was a simple sparkplug just misfiring yet I didn't notice any difference but it was just enough to store a fault code on the ECU.

Invest in a Diagnostic code reader, I am and it will at least give you SOME idea of whats going on before you start guessing its this and that because the codes will need to be cleared anyway.

Like cheeky monkey said invest in a tester. The gendan diagnostics tester is pretty good and only £50 which is the starting point for a cheap garages labour.
