my lass puts nothing but the higher octain fuels in her 1.8t (180 bhp) bora, i havent noticed the difference between the different brands of super unleaded but the one time she put the 95 ron in it didnt feel as smooth or as quick! i think its better for the turbo in the long run too?  :undecided:

I can only use shell petrol in my golf, any other fuel and it runs like sh1te..

But as for the optimax ive tried that and not noticed any difference in that with the normal unleaded, but being only 115bhp I dont think it would make any difference in my car anyway, its more noticable in a high perfomance car like evo's, scoobies etc.

im a optimax user - wont fill my mk4 gti (20v 1.8t) with anything else (well sometimes i do with bp ultimate when im low).

i generally get 33-38 mpg and have done over 400 miles on a full tank.

yes theres an extra cost but its supposed to help mainain your engine, etc so maybe youre cutting future repair costs.

also, if you collect get the points and just use optimax, shell upgrade you to their optimax club!!  (more points per litre)

Well i have to disagree with my Golf. Run it on both 98-99 ron and 95 ron and it makes no difference i find!?  :undecided:

If anything my golf runs better on 95 ron, which is good coz it's cheeper

But i wonder why it doesn't make a difference. As in power, and MPG. Get more MPG out of 95 ron.

I filled my 8v on Optimax the other day - £52 it cost  Good job it gives me about 32-33mpg or I'd be free wheeling down hills and slipstreaming buses to make it last...

heh heh, true sayin

1.07 a litre here tho
do notice a difference tho and it aint just wishfull thinking

I remember a while ago on Top Gear (might have been) they ran some top performance cars on Optimax and BP Performance stuff... I think Optimax came out better but really depends on the the car. No doubt in my mind though that most cars are going to run better on the stuff.

I do find tesco sometimes to be bad on quality of petrol esp the standard stuff, and usually fill my car with BP or Shell normal. Its only a 1.4 so its not worth it...

Apparently the reason for the expence is not only the octane level but the additives in the 'super' brands as they help the engine run more efficiently and clean the engine as it goes, therefore the higher costs.

I've run Opti in the Scooby and it sucked...Ulti ran like a dream as did Tesco. Beetle hates anything but Tesco 99Ron as does my 16v Mk3...so I keep it on that and get 320-350 out of a tank(£44-47) without driving Miss Daisey (Must admit the AmD map has helped a lot).
