Side trim question
« on: 13 July 2006, 19:41 »
Hopefully this will make sense!

What model 3dr mk2's had the fat side strips with the small bit of trim that goes halfway up the front of the rear wheel arch? Basically, i'm looking to remove my arch trims and i think i need that little bit of trim i mentioned to cover up a couple of holes that would be left.

1.3s & CLs got them. There were 2 types as well!
The early type is thinner and looks better, also discontinued
The later type is chunkier and runs all the way to under the arch, and looks rubbish imo!  Have a look for any posts by J_S, hes just de arched his 89, and fitted 90 spec rubbing strips with early CL spats :)

He also have a contact in the states where you can possibly buy new ones :)

Ooh, that does look a hell of a lot better than the fat type doesn't it!

Am i right in thinking i can just leave the rivet holes in the lip of the arch and not have to fill them? Unless there's any bare metal showing obviously.

Yeah the holes are under the lip so you can leave em.  You'll be lucky if you dont find any rust that needs doing! J_S had a bit and got a body shop to weld up the holes and touch up the arches, they did it on the cheap for him and only sprayed up to the line where the angle changes if you get me.  Looks pretty good, not really too noticable and will do for now untill he gets a proper job done :)

Edit Check it oot (this is after the bodywork too!):
