Roof mounted aerial
« on: 30 June 2006, 13:17 »
Hello,

I have noticed that the reception I get has dropped off remarkably and on looking at the aerial I notice that the seal around the base of it to the roof has split.  Could this be the cause and also does this then allow water to ingress into the car roof?  How easy is it to fix this?  Can you get at all the bits externally or not?  Is there some sort of amplifier included in the aerial base?

Sorry for all the questions

The ariel has an amplifier yes, but it is in-line not in the base!

They allways go wrong so try that first!

Thanks for the reply.  Presumably this amplifier is behind the radio somewhere?  Is it just a case of pulling the radio out and fitting a new one?  Is it possible to get an upgraded amp so that the signal strength is greater?  On the aerial end, is it possible to fit a new sleeve around the base unit so that no water can get in?

Thanks

Not sure how old your car is Dodfus but I had the same problem with my aerial.  VW changed it under warranty and reception is much better, the VW guy said they are always failing!

Its not behind the radio - I think (may b wrong) its in the headlining in the rear!
