Central Locking
« on: 20 June 2006, 10:26 »
Hi all, the time has come again when I need to ask some advice.

My central locking had a couple of mad moments over the last couple of days where IÂ’d lock the car, it would stay locked for 2 seconds then unlock itself again.
It did this a few times then went back to normal.
Then, I locked it again one day and it went into a loop, locking then unlocking itself continuously, again staying locked for about 2 seconds each time.
Finally itÂ’s now given up the ghost and the pump doesnÂ’t sound at all when I lock the car, only the drivers door locks.

Has anyone witnessed this before, would it mean my central locking pump has died or something else?

does anyone have any experience of problems with the cntral locking system?

I checked the wires last night and there is a constant voltage where the pump connects in the boot, whether the car is locked or unlocked, is this right? Would this point to the pump being faulty? I can replace the pump for £20 but don't really want to fork out this cash if the one I have is ok... anyone know how i can test my pump?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i currently can't open my petrol cap and she's running low?!?!

First thing you want to do is whip off the drivers door card and have a look at the switch/lock mechanism. Sounds like the switch is shafted from what you say.
If you unscrew it from the door and unclip it from the metal rod you will be bale to activate it by hand to see where the problem is.

As for getting into the petrol cap, look inside the boot behind the flap sort of area and you'll see the wire rod which locks the flap. Just pull this back to pop the flap open.

cheers mate

I've looked inside the drivers door and this mechanism seems to be working ok but it's hard to tell, the drivers door lock goes up and down correctly but the central llocking pump does nothing, not even a click

if you think removing the mechanism may yield more information I'll give this a go tomorrow

thanks again for the help.

UPDATE:

My central locking is now working, it turned out it was the drivers door actuator, as soon as I connected a replcement the central locking pump sprang into life.

The problem I have now is that the immobilizer seems to be out of sync with the locking so when the car is locked the imobilizer goes off and vice versa...

Would this be a wiring problem or is it something I can fix by somehow resetting the alarm/immobilizer system?
