BIT OF A SPLUTTER
« on: 26 June 2006, 18:37 »
Hello fellow golfolians am in need of some advice if you would be so kind . I've recently
purchased a 1990 8v and she's more than a bit sluggish first thing in the morning 85%
of the time .
On a typical day i start her up and travel 200yds then the spluttering and backfiring
starts , i then need to carry on for a couple of miles pull over and cut the engine ,  then
restart after about 20secs or so , then she runs fine.
A colleague of mine suggested a faulty coolant temperature sensor might be the cause , as far as i can gather the Haynes manual refers to this as a thermo switch but the picture in the book is not the same as the part on the car , what does this do and could it be the
problem ? .
Would really appreciate any help .
