Chipping a Dirty diesel
« on: 08 December 2003, 23:32 »
im new to this forum site so firstly, hi all!  This is just a brief query. I am the proud owner of a mk4 gti 150bhp pd diesel.  I have had the car for around a year and a half now and as the warranty is now approaching its end (its an import, hence not 3 years) i am thinking about having it chipped.  I have done alot of surfing around and there seems to be two styles of chip available, 1 for around ?40 and the other for around ?300.  Whats the difference?  Is the cheaper option to be avoided?  Does it work like the cheap car chips and basically make the engine run rich, hence causeing increased bore wash?  Any advise would be appreciated.

not 100% but I think it is about 400 quid to have the ECU remapped. Safer than chipping so I hear.  I don't have alot of experience in the diesels though. I drove one a year or so ago and was well impressed though. shifts right along. :)

I've got a Gti PD150 too and had the Revo Upgrade done by Vince at Stealth Racing. Not cheap at ?499 but includes rolling road before and after. BHP upto to 190 but real difference is in the torque. Overtaking performance is now awesome and engine is quieter at tickover. Fuel consumption is probably 5-8% higher but this is probably because you want to exploit all the power most of the time! This upgrade is a software download via the serial port which sits alongside the standard settings on the ECU chip. No visible little black boxes to invalidate your warranty, no problems with the MFA readout and not so much smoke as the plug in upgrades. Recommend you add diesel fuel cleaner after you have had the upgrade done to clean out the injector nozzles.

GTi PD150, Revo'd, Hasta La Vista!
