Gearbox gate adjustment

Ive just had a new gearbox put into my Mk2,  and im struggling to get it into first, and second isnt brill. it seems to get it in i have have to push hard left and force it up. now my technical knoledge is pretty crap, but i think it might be the Gearbox gate, i just wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and knew how easy it is 2 adjust

See the orange coloured nut to the right of the black weighted shifter shown in this diagram:-



That, along with the bolt on the other end, clamp onto the rod that is responsibe for the lateral movement in your shift and it needs loosening and adjusting very slightly.

hmmm that white/beige ball and socket connector, that clips onto one of the arms commin of the gearbox is split, do you think this could be the problem???

Could be, is there actually much play in the joint itself? If so then yes, it certainly won't help.

Why not overhaul all the bushes etc., whilst in there. rubjonny has produced an excellent little guide for just that, including how to reset your alignment with previously mentioned pinch bolt:-

CHeers for your help guys, i think my goof would love new bushes, tighten up gearchange and hopfully sort out this frustrating 1st gear
