Driving to work this week my clutch pedal went to the floor and stayed there! I thought the cable had snapped so tried to fit a new one when I realised the clutch lever on the box had no resistance so I thought the clutch had gone! Took the car to a local garage where they changed the clutch and it was still the same! He then told me that it was the clutch realease bearing! Bought one of those and got it fitted and no change and the mechanic noticed that the gear which the bearing locates onto has worn away or broken!(All this was over the phone so cant explain exactly only what I have been told) The garage then suggested getting a new box or replacement shaft! (He is a mate so aint trying to con me thouigh cos I know this sounds dodgy)
My question is- will any gti gearbox fit (8v 97 model) or will they vary? Or even a mk 2 box or whatever I can get hold of???
