Clutch problems
« on: 14 May 2006, 17:33 »
Since I bought my car 3 years it has had a very high biting point. Recently the car has begun to behave differently. When I accelerate hard in first gear I canÂ’t change in to second, the gear stick just wonÂ’t seem to engage second until I slow down slightly, also the car judders slightly when moving off in reveres and occasionally when moving off in first. I have a 1990 model therefore it has the automatically adjusting clutch cable. Which iv been told is adjusted by pumping the clutch pedal and then manually pushing the clutch down under the bonnet in order to take up the slack. Can any one tell me if this is the correct way to adjust the cable and also whether or not you think the cable is at fault or do I need a new clutch?

The correct way to adjust it, is to remove it and throw into the nearest bin, then fit a manual cable ;)  The self adjust ones don't age well, the manual ones just need adjusting every now & again, though saying that mine hasn't needed looking at for over a year :)
