Should the brakes on my GTi make a crunching noise - help!

I bought a 7 month old Mk5 GTi on Apr 1st. I absolutely love the car but I have a problem with the brakes that I'd appreciate some advice on. 

In my 1st week of driving I noticed that when I braked and came to a standstill the brakes made a crunching, grating noise just before I stopped.  This was especially bad when the brakes were cold.  I reported this to the VW dealer where I bought the car from and they inspected the brakes.   They said it was caused by a small amount of corrosion on the brakes.  This had built up between me test driving the car and me picking the car up.  I had gone on holiday in between so it was 2 (very long!) weeks before I picked up the car.  They said they valeted the car everyday and the water from that had caused the rust.  They said give it 500 miles and in 9 out of 10 cases it would go away.

700 miles and 1 week later, it hadn't gone away.  So I booked the car in with the dealer and they replaced the pads FOC (plus leant me courtesy car for the morning).  This was last Saturday (the 29th April) and unfortunately the problem hasn't gone away.

It has now got me thinking that perhaps this is what the brakes are supposed to sound like.  Please could you  let me know what your brakes all sound like when you come to a standstill.  If they aren't supposed to   make this sound I will give the dealer a very hard time.  But I am loath to do this if there isn't a problem.  Help....

It sounds like the front disc need skimming or replacing....

This sounds pretty familiar and is a pretty common with the Porsche brand, it's caused by motors getting washed and the water sitting on the disc corroding them.  I had to have my fronts replaced on the Boxster, they were completely glazed over on the insides....  Is there anyway of you getting underneath to check the inside of the discs?  If not then take it to the dealer, get them to put it on the ramp and look yourself for glazing....
