gti plastics, bumpers
« on: 16 April 2006, 11:23 »
Hi all. Recently purchased a mk2 gti. Would like to change the plastics on the exterior, including new big bumpers. Who/where is best to purchase them? I would prefer original VAG parts, but top quality pattern parts would do at a push. Cheers

front & rear bumpers are held on with 4 big bolts each underneath.  When doing front bumpers only undo the 4 large outer bolts, not the smaller middle bolt, otherwise the engine will fall out   and dont drive it with those bolts missing whatever you do!
The rear bumper also has 3 extra screws, one at the underside of both rear arches and one near the zaust cutout.

The side rubbing strips will all pull off, some of the clips may break so be prepared to get some more.  The arches are riveted on.  If you have the plastic sill extensions, open both jacking covers I'm sure theres a screw under the front or rear one, and then they'll just unclip I believe.

I got a front bumper from VW for about £88. It was just the outer plastic skin.

VAG bumpers are the only way.
