I've looked into to this tonight, and i've got to admit i'm surprised what i've found...

Now to eliminate a few myths.
Synta silver is 10W40, Gold is 5W40.

So infact at normal operating temperature, they are both the same viciousity.
What really makes the different is cold starts, gold is thinner when cold so should provide better protection.
This time of year shouldn't matter that much, however in the winter months its definately better to use gold.
We all know that cold starting and warm up is where most engine wear occurs....
Also being fully synthetic, gold will not break up when subjected to high engine operating speeds  :laugh:
I'm not sure if silver is the same though.
So i would recommend using gold for all gti's.
