8V that's thisty - 16V that's about right, 28mpg is average in a valver - 35ish 8V. Wouldn't make a habit of it, all the age-old gunk in the bottom of the  fuel tank will happily bung up your fuel system.

my valver MFA is currently reading 38ish mpg, take this with a pich of salt though. My calculations work it out at about 34ish though, so for the age of the car and performance/fun factor you can't argue with that!

My '88 16v gets about 30mpg, give or take a few depending how I am driving it.  Which I think is about average.

It depends very much on the type and length of individual journeys and how many cold starts you made in that 31 miles. It would be very difficult to average 30mpg in one 30mile journey starting from cold.  :nerd:

if i really try hard i can get 42mpg from mine but thats so much hard work.  my average is about 18mpg. 30 sounds ok to me driven normally.  saying that i tuned mine up on my co meter and its so much better.  of course theres always speedo error to factor in your mpg figures too

Agreed, my mileometer reads + 7% on distance so makes the car seem more economical
