rubbing noise when turning left,

my golf gti 8 valve, has is making a stranmge rubbing like noise when the steering wheel has no resistence to the left, any ideas? likely wheel bearing? i have just replaced the drivers hub and bearing which cured another problem now i have this, alos my power steering becomes heavy, is this the pump on its way out?

Its most probably just your pas belt. It may need replacing or simply tensioning.

no its kind of like as though something is catching, like a very fine vibration as though the tyre is catching on something but i cant see how it is. Cheers anyway

ha ha i had this searched high and low for it turns out the steering rack was'nt aligned causeing the wheel to rub on the inner arch spent ages lining it up then next mot had to change the track rod so had to have it all apart again!!!

check your camber and tracking as a first point of call, and then move onto things like steering tack etc. The most i reckong it will be is the camber on the left strut is ouit of postion. Have you changed the tyres or wheels recentey?

one way to see if the pump is working is just look in the resivoir if you have the box type one. you'll see if sloshing around in there as it's been cycled throught the pipes.

cheers for the help i was thinking possible track rod as i have just had that out when i changed the hub, also i have changed all the wheels recently too. thanks
