A box is too big...

Ok so thats cool for finding the distance the stick should be left to right. What about forward and back? Any known method for holding it in the right position on that axis?!

When you take the clamp off, have a look by eye how much of the shift rods sticks thu it, and bolt it on the same amount.

Yeah a CD case is about the right size, but not so easy to fit into the hole :)

Cheers matey, but i'm out in the sticks in Norwich! Doubtful it's anywhere near you?!

Buy one from VAG (they're under a fiver).  Then you have to preload the slack in the linkages (do a search for my previous post)

Well worth £5 for a perfect gearchange setup.
