Just purchased a 1.8T have a few questions

Hello, just got a new golf 1.8T (used to have a passat 1.8T) and have a few questions!

The bloke selling it said it's a 180bhp, I asked if it was chipped and he said it was from the factory like that, the
car is a 2001 on a Y plate - I thought the 180bhp were from 2002?
It certainly feels like 180bhp, I would just like to know if it's chipped or stock, it also has a 5 speed box
and I thought that all the 180's had a 6 speed.

Service intervals?  the previous owner had it serviced every 6 months or 6 thousand miles, I'm pretty sure it's
every 12k/1 year or when the service indicator tells you?

i know they did 150s and 180s around that time. mine is a 2001 and a 150 so not to sure

Yeah, 180's were available in 5 speed around that time. IIRC, the 6 speed box (on petrols) didn't come out until the Anni's came out in 2002.

I dint think that the 180bhp came out til the anni's either

Check the engine code from the V5 - i think that the 180bhp were AUQ codes, all the others were 150bhp

Just gone over the service book, on the vehicle data details it lists it as GOLF GTI TURBEXCLU 110KW

110KW  = 147 bhp

I'm guessing the original owner got it chipped from the factory and that's why they increased the service intervals to every 6 months/6k miles

I guess this means the power is more like 190 bhp if it's chipped it certainly feels quick.

hi if your car is a 180 it will say on the log book next to golf gti however the 180 didnt come with a five speed box i know as i bought a gti 180 last month and researhed it from dealers etc.the earliest they came out was 2002 with the annivesary car hope this helps

The 180 was never available with a 5 speed box from the factory. The 180 came out (in VWland) with the Anniversary and then went on to become a stand-alone model.

This of course is not to say that it hasn't been chipped,. I've driven a few chipped 150's and I 've found that the 5 speed box with the increased power is quite a nice combo.

If you're in any doubt, pop into or phone your local stealer and get them to bang the reg number into "dialog" which is the VW system and it will tell you there.
