« on: 24 November 2003, 16:57 »
Does anyone know how to identify the engine type from the engine number. I have a 2.0 8v in my mk1 but am not sure what its from.
load of numbers, last one ends in 3 then AA. Does this mean i have a 3A audi lump(bubble block)
Excuse my poor knowledge but i don't like getting my hands dirrty! ???

Yup, the Audi 3A engine is sometimes called the "bubble block" due to the slight bulges designed into the casting to allow for the larger crank shaft. The 3A was originally at home in the Audi 80.
