Got me Golf. Know nowt. Can you help?

Hello,

I have never been into cars much and I have bought a W reg Silver Golf GTI and I really like it.
I know very little about car repair/maintenance and I have some little niggles and would appreciate it if some of you could help.

1. The back screen wiper has a mind of it's own, is this common?

2. The back screen wiper does not squirt (front does), what could this be?

3. The CD player does not continue automatically once I have started the car. I have to either, turn the radio on/off, eject the cd and re-insert or press FM then CD. Is this common?

4. All four brake discs as pads have been changed by previous owner but need the Brake Disc indication reset. how can I do this without going to garage? Can I short it with a paper clip or something?

5.  I've told the starter motor is on the way out (makes a werrrrring noise after starting). Been told it make keep going for a while and could change myself. Is this likely as I'm such a novice?

Any help with the above points would be spotty dog.

Everyone goes on about MK1 & MK2 etc. I know this means Mark1 and Mark 2 but whats mine?

on a W reg yours is a mark 4! 

Not too sure about those little quirks you have with your car, post them up in the mark 4 section perhaps!

how do 

back washer - the pipe has come off somewhere along the line.  look for damp patches inside the car along the headlining; if there's nowt there its come off within the boot and the boot panel has to come off

this is a good forum for to find out about your car..some good people on here..topher seems to know his mark4 stuff..just don't let him convince u into buying stuff for it,could work out expensive

Just the other day me mate said there was a damp patch in the lining above. I thought it may be a leek from the ariel, but the disconnected hose sounds like an answer (There's me pumping loads and loads screen wash trying to dislodge a blockage!)
