Buying a diesel
« on: 09 March 2006, 21:37 »
So when do you stop on the mileage? Looking for a late as possible diesel pref VW, but swaying towards a Focus, I want high spec as poss but for under £4k (budget has changed). Is 120k miles too high with fsh?

Sorry, i know it's not strictly related but does anyone remember the mk3 td on 5th gear that they fitted nos to? Kept up with an NSX for a fair bit! Might be worth checking out?

I apologise if the thread now goes towards this but i just meant it to put another idea forward to you!

I've never let mileage put me off any car (well that's a lie, was put off a discovery because it had 250k)...

Last 5 cars have all been well over 100k and I haven't had my fingers burnt yet!

However, for 4k, I would be expecting something of a lower mileage beast.

Stick with vw too, would think you'd notice the build quality difference.

My caddy van has done 253000 mls I've owned it from new it has f/s/h and bar from that have not spent a penny on it  so i would'nt let the mileage bother you, just check the history ie wether it has motorway miles or town miles (i prefer motorway miles less wear and tear on the engine) good luck

Mileage is fine. However, expect things to wear pretty soon. Things don't last forever. Even VW's !

Mine was less the £4K, high mileage and full VW service history, which I was able to verify with Autohaus. TBH its hard to believe its done the mileage! I think it was a great buy  Don't be put off with high mileage. Better that, than a low mileage abused vehicle.
