Gear woes
« on: 27 January 2006, 22:45 »
Been having greif with my gearbox

basically I have to push it hard into first and drag it hard into second cos if I dont it will flick back into neutral!

moving to 3rd and down into forth is fine and 5th no probs.

Just wondering what might be the problem and if its going to empty out my weee savings.

also the clutch it feels ery light the biting point is about half way up but it doesnt feel like it grabs the gears more slips into them if you know what I mean?

Any help would be great and recommendations for a vw garage in London thats good would be great as it looks like I need a mechanic

forgot to add its a Vw golf 1.6s 2001

cable change on this model, 1st thing id say would be to get cable change checked... then checked that the cables are greased ok... if they dry up they cause changing probs... 1st port of call id say... if not then get any wear checked on any linkages.... if not clutch adjustment or possible replacement??
