Need some help plz chaps...car has lost 21bhp somewhere!

I'll try to keep it short...

TSR Donnington Engine in 2003

the car runs on a standard ecu

Now I know that all rolling roads vary, but a 20bhp difference? Surely not.

The car feels 100% fine. Water temp never gets to halfway unless I'm in heavy stop-start traffic, oil temp never gets above 106 even when I'm driving hard on the motorway.

The car does not leak fluids or have a dodgy tick-over and is always run on Optimax - basically the car runs like a dream and I was very shocked when the result came. The car has always returned just over 300miles per tank of petrol.

The car has always been quick and - I assume - if I'd suddenly lost 21bhp, I'd know about it, right?

It had a recent 'tune up' at VW, who said it was over fuelling (5% I was told if that means anything to anyone. 3% is max for an MOT) so they fixed that and also altered my emissions as they were way out too.
They altered my air/fuel ratio.

Now, I'm a bit of a fool when it comes to adding a chip etc, but it seems as though the time has come to do so.

Pitstop Developments have been recommended to me(http://www.pitstopdevelopments.co.uk). They do a SNS Chip for the Digifant engine, so I'm going to see if they can add one to my engine and for what cost.

I assume these things need to be set up on a rolling road and you can't be a generic 'performance' chip?

Any advice would be great chaps as would really love to get this sorted.

Would a chip unleash 20bhp from my modified engine?

i honestly think its the rolling road mate, if it drives fine then it probably is fine, im pretty certain you would feel 20bhp less!!

id go back to the rolling road where you got the 1st one done before spending cash

If I go back to where I first got the rolling road done in Cambridge in October...what on earth do I say?

I've been looking into a remapped ecu, but I know nothing about them. Anyone got any advice?

If you are near Silverstone then you need to go to a place called WRC (I think), it's the most accurate RR in the country and that's where we had the golfgti.co.uk RR day in November last year. That will tell you exactly what you are pushing as yes RRs can be out, but I'm not sure 20bhp+ out normally.

Once you know what you are pushing you can begin to look into it more as I'm not certain you are sure if performance has degraded or not, you think it has because of the RR graphs. Do you feel like you had the performance of 140+ or does it still feel the same as it always did ? It could be something simple like it needs a tune from someone who knows about them. Tesh on here runs g-star dubworld and I think he does chips for digis (gtijoe has one so will tell you about it) and he's a top guy, there's a child board for him here --> http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=38.0
