Its a sad day
« on: 26 January 2006, 08:23 »
Right guys as much as i hate to say it , i have to part with my golf

She's a '92 oak green 8v with 139,000 on the clock and a FSH. The car is absolutely original , apart from a crome handbrake  , and is in very clean condition. There is a few minor marks around the car , no dents though, that you would expect from a car of this age, and some light scratches on the bonnet.

The car has had 8 owners but obviously has been maintained regardless of cost as it really is a nice example. interior is excellent apart from very light wear on the drivers bolster.

The reason i am posting in this section is because i have not got a clue what to sell her for or what the best way to sell her would be , i really want the car to go to an enthusiast ,.

Any help would be really appreciated guys. Many thanks. Craig

Hiya,

If it's an estimate of the worth of the car you want, it's best to look around to see what other GTI's are selling for. We all know you can get tired old digs for a few hundred and spent up to £2k on a minter. The mileage seems alright (a lot of people seem to go for the under 100k cars, most of which are blatently false) but the number of owners is not so good.

FSH history is good, is it full VW service history at the dealers? This is better, money wise, for putting more in your pocket.

Again 8v's don't normally go for as much as 16v, but you've got a sought after colour. It's difficult without any pictures to go on, but you say that it's quite tidy but not mint.

What extra's does it have? I imagine it's on a 'J' plate, with run out specs. So BBS? Sunroof? Electric windows (front I guess?)

Any optional extras? Electric mirrors, rear electric windows? (God forbid) Air Con?

As a rough guestimate, I say that you're unlkikely to get more than 1.5k, but this is without knowing the full scoop on the car and not seeing pictures.

At the end of the day, somethings only worth what someone's prepared to pay. But MK2's are fairly cheap at the moment so it's not a good seller's market.

Thanks for the info guys.

The car has full VW history up to 130,000 and then by a local garage. The car has sunroof , elec windows ( front only ) rainbow interior, good condition BBS alloys, original parcel shelf.

I was after around the £1,300 mark for it. i know the amount of owners is not good but i saw a lot of cars before buying this one and none were as genuine as this one, i suppose 8 good owners is better than 2 bad ones ,.

Really apreciate the help as its hard to judge your cars worth when all the cars being sold around me are either modified or nails.
