Which Alarm
« on: 22 January 2006, 08:04 »
Hi guys

Bit of advice from those who have probably been here which alarm?

I'm just about to pruchase a MK3 GTI 8v (96 P) "for the missus" and the insurance company require an alarm, which the car has nothing at the moment. There are so many out there with varying prices. The insurance company do not specify cat 1 but would assume this would be the best option?

The car operates with the key, I'm assuming there is no factory imoboliser???

Any help or dvise would be appreciated

i had a cat 1 alarm and imob fitted last year, its a meta. i have had no problem with it at all, never gone off when it shouldnt have! cost me 350 and it opens the doors on the key fob.(i had to have central locking motors fitted buy yours should have that already) most insurance companys want cat 1 alarms as they are approved (toad and clifford are also top bits of kit)
Also alot depends on how good the person is who is fitting the alarm, as they set up the basic settings of the alarm, if they do things wrong you can get fauls alarms and other stuff, just because you get a certificate doesnt mean you get a good job, shop around and pick a good installer!

Ive heard good stuff about the toad ai606s, its the alarm i intened to buy soon when ive got the cash spare. Ill be fitting it meself though to save some money and because im doing it for peace of mind on my own part and not to get discount from insurers so Im not too bothered bout the certificate. Also you can fit them yourself and then take it to a garage and they will check whether you have fitted it right and then stamp the certificate. You might save yourself a bit of cash that way.

ive got toad ai606 fitted to my mk3 excellent
the local dealer wanted 300 quid fitted
but i got it brand new with certificates off ebay for £100
and got a local mobile fitter to do it for £90
you need to put in the thatcham evaluation number on the certificate
if you get one of these ive got the thatcham numbers for this system
