Steaming and greasyness is bad sign

If they steam up ALL THE TIME as you put it my bets are on the matrix! I was going through a bottle of fog-x a week!
I followed a combination of haynes and a print out of a thread either here or from clubgti. Was helpful as the haynes completey missed out one of the bolts! Have a search.
As far as i remember i removed... the centre console, both lower dash pieces, and the glove box which is tricky to pop out without damaging it

. Then there is some covers to remove that cover the heater motor. All easy enough just a few screws.
Then removing the plastic box the matrix sits in.. keep a note of all the pull wire connections for the heater controls for reconnecting them later. to remove the vent hoses you need to remove the vent grills. Can't remember exactly but i think they pop out easily when turned the right way. Then use a screwdriver or something to prise open the staples holding the tubes on.
You will need to remove the hoses to it from the engine bay, and undo the two bolts. Put wd40 on them prior to doing it though. Then its just lots of wiggling to get the matrix box out, change the matrix itself and lots of wiggling to get it back in again!

Sorry its a bit hazy but i have only done it once and it was a year ago!
Good luck!
