dodgy door lock - auto window closing
« on: 13 November 2003, 03:27 »
I have had my 96 GTi for a few months now. It's a 5 door if it makes any difference.

Since I've had it the drivers door lock has felt kind of loose - there's no resistance at all as you turn the key - it works fine and all just doesn't feel like the passenger side.

When I had an alarm installed I was hoping that I could have it set so that it would close the windows like in my last car but it isn't possible as when you open the doors (the alarm controller sends a pulse for 10s) the windows all open.

Does anyoe know if this is related to the lock? or is it possible to have the windows close automatically but not open?

I'm going to have the door all open anyway to fit a new window regulator so it would be useful to fix it at the same time if possible.

Should the lock feel like that or is there a simple fix anyone knows. Not a problem as such, just a nuisance.

Thanks.

Hi there.  Dunno about the technical stuff, but I have a 5 door Mk3 GTi and I have auto window closing (and sunroof) hooked up to my alarm.  They all stay shut when I open the doors again.  Maybe it's your make of alarm?  Mine's an old Sigma system.

It's a Scorpion alarm. You can only set it to pulse for the same length of time for opening and closing so maybe it's just a problem with that type as you say. Not very handy that every time you open the doors all 4 windows open!
