Thought it was going to be so simple, update
« on: 29 December 2005, 00:16 »
Took the car to my brother-in-law today to get it checked over, I suspected the wheel bearing had a bit of a rumble.  Not too bad thinks i.  Well he got it on the ramp, took a good look over it, and said, "Bearings are fine" ...."The front suspension top mounts, and the anti-roll-bar drop link bushes on the other hand, are absolutely fooked."

Well, i ordered the bits today, only 50 of the queens finest.  I have them coming from GSF so fingers crossed they'll be here in time to get them fitted at the week end.

Just wondering, is this a time consuming job, just concerned about possible high labour charge.

not too biga job really. drop the shocks down easy enough to replace the tops. then ARB mounts are simple.

Well luckily for me, no labour charge.  Good job too,

1. i did most of it,
2. it all went pete tong.

Got everything fitted, and whilst it was jacked up thought it best to check everything i could. checked the rear pads and there were bits of pad hanging off.

Ok so brakes apart. cleaned and new set of pads were fitted.  Bled the brakes and everything was fine.  Then let the car down and took it for a quick test drive.

What a racket, the top strut on the drivers side was making hell of a noise.

I then spent all afternoon trying to sort it, only to find the thread on the strut was about as hard as melted butter, and guess what happened, i stripped the bloody thread.  Really not happy.

Oh well lets see what tommorow brings, get the new strut to fit in the morning, wish me luck.

Oh, if you have any suggestion on what might make this easier to do, let me know.
