Hello mate, I am 26 with no NCB and my insurance is about £300. If you or your Dad goes on http://www.confused.com/
then that should sive you a good starting point. I dunno about classic car insurance too much as never tried it but with your Dad being a bit crustier  than most of us then you will be ok.

I insured my Formel E with HIC, £150 or so, but limited mileage etc and I'm in the late 30's.

I was looking for classic car insurance this year but I had no luck.

Basically, the golf MK1 has to be a second car and you cannot share the no-claims bonus. So I would have to start from scrath resulting in a premium in excess of £1000 for classic car insurance even though I had 3-years no-claims on my MK3. Also, the MK1 has to be garaged, cat-1 alarm, supply photos and a car valuation.

I have also found that insurance companies dont like parent-child policies.

Go to norwich-union they do a pay-as-you-go insurance for 19-21 years old. Might work out cheaper.

Since I never had a second car with no-claims bonus I ended up insuring the MK1 using a normal fully-comp policy. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.............

alpesh - from what I understand when you take out a classic policy you don't need any no claims bonus.

HIC have been really good with insuring all 3 of my cars, two are on classic polcies and one isn't. My mk1 was insured on a classic policy way before I was 25 - I was driving a few different Triumphs whilst at Uni and all of those were on classic policies. I think Footman James cover 21 year olds on classic cars but may be wrong.

You'd need to be over 21 before most companies will insurance on classics, I'd also suggest getting some of the air-cooled VW mags like Volksworld, VW motoring, Camper and Buses and look through the ads in them. I insured my camper with someone called Jardine Faber and they were the cheapest I could find and you can contact them on 01604 639011.
......now officially dubless.

I have my '83 cab. GTI on classic car insurance (AON) underwritten by Royal Sun Alliance  its not an agreed value but i have unlimitted mileage and no mention of having the use of another car,but i do,  also the car had to be at least 10 years old and match their criteria of classic car status comprehensive insurance for me is 75 pounds/year but my age (52) may have something to do with that but i have had the car on a classic car policy for at least 10 years and its been quite reasonable for all that time

i can do you a classic policy (classic 19 and up) as long as you have had a licence over a year and do less than 7500 miles pa but i could only insure you in your own name not under your dads as we wont insure parents with children driving. I can insure on classic as your only car but it is a lot cheaper if its a second vehicle!

Happy to have a go for you, gimme a bell @ hic/golf+ insurance on 08451 266366 and ask for martin or pm me your number and i will give you a bell!

Hope this helps!!
