New Owner Pulling Hair Out!
« on: 09 December 2005, 22:23 »
My first post as its over ten years since I last owned a GTI, got myself a cheap(ish) 86 8v K-Jet GTI of e-Gay to play with over the winter.  Sorted out loads of probs with the help of this site so far but having a nightmare with the front wheel bearings.  Had both fronts pressed into the hubs at my local garage, refiited and all was well.  Driving the car home from work (about 25 miles) today and there's a metallic grinding/rubbing noise at very low speeds when applying lots of lock.  It happens when turning left only - I waited a couple of hours, took the car for a spin and it had dissapeared, but after about 15 or so minutes of driving it starts again!  It didn't do it before I changed the bearings and I've cheched that nothing's loose, the only thing I haven't done yet is have the tracking and camber sorted, Hopefully someone can help!

A mate of mine had the same problem a few years back on his rover and think it turned out to be the cv joint. Only grinding at full lock or there abouts. Bit tired and drunk now so can't think of nowt else but i'm sure one of the lads will be able to shed more light - good luck.
<br />Almost finished.....

Maybe just the dust shield which goes behind the disc?? As it only need to be out a bit and it makes a  great noise ....

Keep us posted with outcome and welcome to a great site
